about

Guitarist Abel Oliva, drummer Duvier Quiroz and singer/bassist Franto Paul Hernandez join together and debut like SECTARIUM in January 1993, resuming influences from Death, Doom and Grind with touches of Black, and lyrics dealing with ancient/pagan cults, horror literature, bad dreams and biblical passages around the Babylonian culture. The first self-released demo intitled “God's Wrath” was out in 1994 in cassette format, and distributed by European, US and Latin American companies and labels, besides being reviewed by the genre fanzines and magazines worldwide giving the band and this demo in special an air of worship in the international underground.
SECTARIUM was one of the most active bands in Cuba, including its presence in several national festivals. Oliva also carries out a personal parallel project called Godes Yrre inside a poetic doom style (with Franto recorded the demo A Divine Image in 1994, and several albums like a one-man-band until today), while Franto did the same with Spiritus (with guitarist Manuel Varela for the demo-cult Soul Enslaved in 1996, released in cassette by American Line Prod) On January 2, 1997 Franto died in tragic circumstances, with which the history of the band is paralyzed. In 1999 the demo “Larvae” (who start Franto to record) was finished by Oliva and Varela and credited to SECTARIUM in Franto’s memoriam.
Almost 30 years after the release of the God’s Wrath demo, in the year of the pandemic as a dark and mysterious sign, seven bands from the Cuban underground extreme metal scene decide to pay tribute not only to the band but also to the mythical demo, covering the songs in their own styles and revitalizing the history of a past that many today began to forget...
